74LS85 IC is a member of the 74XXYY IC series. The 74LS85 IC has a wide range of working voltage, a wide range of working conditions, and directly interfaces with CMOS, NMOS, and TTL. The output of the IC always comes in TTL which makes it easy to work with other TTL devices and microcontrollers. The 74LS85 is a 4-Bit Magnitude Comparator which compares two 4-bit words (A, B), each word having four Parallel Inputs (A0–A3, B0–B3); A3, B3 being the most significant inputs (MSBs).

What is a 4-bit Magnitude Comparator?
A 4-bit magnitude comparator compares two binary numbers each of four bits. It consists of eight inputs each for two four bit numbers and three outputs to generate less than, equal to and greater than between two binary numbers.
